Chelsea Rathburn Receives 2009 NEA Fellowship in Poetry
Rathburn one of 42 poets selected for national honor

Atlanta poet Chelsea Rathburn is one of 42 writers nationwide to win a 2009 poetry fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. The grant will allow her to pursue work on a second book of poetry, to be titled A Raft of Grief.

Rathburn’s first full-length poetry collection, The Shifting Line, won the 2005 Richard Wilbur Award and was published by the University of Evansville Press. Individual poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Poetry, The Atlantic Monthly, The New Criterion, The Hudson Review, and The Cincinnati Review, among other journals and anthologies.

Literature Fellowships are the Arts Endowment's most direct investment in American creativity, encouraging the production of new work and allowing writers the time and means to write. The individual artist fellowships alternate annually between poetry and prose.
